Unschooling parents face unique challenges
Most families chose the "easy" route of handing responsibility for their children’s education over to the “authorities” – to teachers, school administrators, curriculum advisors and private tutors. Even most homeschooling families believe that parents or other adults should act as the authorities, by establishing a curriculum and serving as teachers, administrators and private tutors themselves.
Unschooling families, on the other hand, have chosen to trust their children to be the authority regarding what, when, how, where and why they learn.
Although most unschoolers discover that this can be a wonderfully relaxing and exciting way to live, most will also agree that the unique challenges inherent in this choice can be overwhelming at times. Without a strong system of support, unschoolers may find themselves feeling isolated, confused, and plagued by self-doubt.
A chance to give and receive support for your unschooling journey
I facilitate monthly conference calls for unschooling parents who want encouragement, ideas and friendly companionship. The unschooling way of life is sometimes lonely and difficult; at other times it can be downright confrontive. It is my honor and my privilege to offer participants the opportunity to talk to other unschoolers, share stories, questions and insights, and receive sympathetic, understanding help.
Get what you need to relax into unschooling
Because it is challenging to learn how to trust ourselves and our children, those of us who choose this path need tender loving care along the way. In personal consultations, I offer unschoolers my experience, my compassion, my insight and my confidence that their true selves will guide them through the tough spots. I encourage clients to ease themselves gently into this unique way of living.
