While there is a lot of helpful information and many inspiring stories about unschooling from around the world now available via the web, there are also some down sides of looking for personal support from online discussion forums.  I have seen many people, already struggling with their own fears and difficult feelings, be inadvertently hurt by others' efforts to help in the impersonal world of cyber space.

If you are feeling worried, vulnerable, triggered, or deeply emotional about the challenges you are currently facing with unschooling, what you probably need is personal attention from someone who trusts you, who trusts unschooling, and who trusts the process that you are in.

I encourage you to search for this emotional support from a live person - another unschooler, a trusted friend, an unschooling-friendly therapist or mentor.

On the other hand, many times all we need is a shot in the arm, a thoughtful and inspiring reminder of the pure value of unschooling. I often encourage new or struggling unschoolers to make it a daily habit to read postings written by other unschoolers, so that they can again be reminded of the beautiful gift that unschooling is for all who come in contact with it, and so they can remember that in this unusual and brave adventure, they are not alone.

The lists from which I have benefited include:

unschooling discussion google group

freethinking unschoolers yahoo group

There are probably many many other blogs and websites online, and I would love to list them here. If you would like to suggest an online discussion forum not listed here, please contact me and I will consider adding it to my list.
